This is the sixteenth issue and part 4 of Storm Clouds Rising.
The RV sped over a speed bump, shaking everyone around inside and waking Jim up. He rubbed his eyes, then pulled off the covers and walked up the RV towards Nick, who was driving. Molly was next to him, and Philip, Jeromy, and Bryson were at the table, playing a game with cards Jim didn't recognize.
Jim: We close?
Nick: No idea. I haven't seen anything remotely close to what could be considered a camp or somewhere people live. We saw a Walmart a few hours ago but that was completely abandoned. We're just coming up on Johnston now. We kinda zigzagged out way through.
Jim yawned and put his face in his hand. They had been out here for five days now, and everyone had grown a scraggly short beard. Except for Molly. When they reached Johnston, Nick stopped the RV.
Nick: I'm done. Someone else's turn.
Philip: No, we should walk from here.
Philip: Think about it. On the highway from Des Moines to Johnston, the road was completely cleared, all the cars on the sides. If the Son-bitch that has my boy is here, like it seems, we'll want to sneak up on them quietly. We should walk.
Jeromy: He's right.
Jim: Let's do it.
Everyone hopped out but Bryson, who turned the RV so they could hop in and drive away quickly if needed.
Bryson: While we're here, we may as well check Fort Dodge. My brother was there when this all started, so we may as well check. It's not far, don't worry. We could find a house and hole up before it gets dark.
Philip: Sounds good. Let's go, hurry your asses.
Bill shot the walker outside. He pulled the lever back, then pushed it forward, releasing the casing. He looked at the oncoming walkers, and saw one get out of his site to the gate. He slid down the ladder, brushed himself off, then walked over to the gate. When he pulled it open, he met a swarm of walkers piling on top of him.
A gunshot went off, killing the closest one, and Bill scrambled away. He looked at the shooter, Carmen, and slammed his rifle into a walker.
Carmen: Get everyone inside! There's an army of creepers swarming us!
Bill: Just go, go!
He ran inside with Carmen, hoping everyone would be okay. Out back in the garden, where Kelly and her kids were, She pushed Kate up onto the roof then turned around, and screamed.
